The Joy of React, a React course with a project using the Nextjs framework published by Josh Comeau. Over the past few years, React has become an essential skill for top developers. Almost every job posting lists it as a prerequisite. However, if you’ve ever tried to learn React, you know it can be confusing and overwhelming. There is a lot to know and most tutorials assume a lot of prior information and background. Maybe you’re stuck in training course hell and have followed the program without making any noticeable progress. You’ve created many “todo list” apps, but when you want to create your own project, you don’t know where to start.

For the past two years, I’ve been working hard to build the best beginner’s React course. This is an interactive course. You don’t just look at code, there are tons of exercises, projects inspired by real examples, and fun mini-games and activities. This lesson is unlike anything you’ve done before (unless you’ve taken my CSS course, in which case it’s a bit similar). We learn React from the ground up and build a strong mental model that we can use to understand React and solve hard problems. I will share with you dozens of titles that I have had after almost a decade of professional React experience. This course isn’t just about React, we cover everything you need to know to succeed as a React developer, including modern JavaScript syntax, along with a wealth of useful open source tools and packages.

What you will learn
We will learn all about JSX, components and props. In the following, we will teach how to do repetition and conditional rendering in React.
The real magic starts with state. React state allows us to build dynamic applications that feel alive.
Side effect management with the useEffect hook
Register the DOM reference with the useRef hook
Optimizing application performance with useMemo and useCallback
Creating our own abstractions with custom hooks
fetching data from the network with Fetch and the useSWR hook
The principle of least privilege and why I give components as little information and power as possible.
The distinction between parent and owner and how we can simplify our code and improve our performance at one level.
The magic of Immer and how it makes complex state easy.
