BBC – The Mary Rose: A Timewatch Guide (2014)
English | Documentary | Size: 1.45 GB

The Mary Rose was a successful warship for Henry VIII for 34 years, from 1511 until 1545. On 19 July 1545, during the Battle of the Solent, off the south coast of England, the Mary Rose sank resulting in the deaths of the vast majority of her crew. She remained on the seabed until 1982.
On 11 October 1982, 60 million people worldwide watched the extraordinary feat live on television – the raising of the 400-year-old Mary Rose – from the seabed off the south coast of England. The raising of the Mary Rose was a remarkable feat of archaeology and her subsequent preservation and display at Portsmouth a triumph of technical skill and imagination.
Using 40 years of BBC archive footage historian Dan Snow explores the discovery, excavation and raising of the iconic ship, finding out what the latest research has revealed about the vessel and her crew. Dan also investigates how the project helped create modern underwater archaeology, and examines the techniques, challenges and successes of the divers and archaeologists involved.
The documentary also features Mary Rose Trust members Alex Hildred (Curator of Ordnance at the Trust) and Chris Dobbs (Head of Interpretation) of the original excavation and raising team.
