English | Documentary | Size: 896 MB

In Search of History journeys 2,000 years from ancient times to the present, taking a closer look at the events, places, and hidden mysteries that have puzzled and inspired historians and experts across the ages.
The Egyptian city of Alexandria was once the most magnificent city on the Mediterranean. It was a city of wonders, whose culture was the envy of the Greek world. Tragically many of Alexandria’s ancient treasures have been lost to time. Of all of these lost wonders none has been more deeply mourned than the Great Library of Alexandria.
Alexander the Great’s general, Ptolemy, founded the famous Alexandria Library. Ancient Library of Alexandria was probably the largest, and certainly the most famous, of the libraries of the ancient world. It flourished under the patronage of the Ptolemaic dynasty, and functioned as a major center of scholarship, at least until the time of Rome’s conquest of Egypt, and probably for many centuries thereafter.
The Library of Alexandria was the greatest repository of knowledge the world had ever seen-until it vanished. For generations people have lamented the day that the Library was consumed by fire. But when was that day exactly? Did it burn in a great fire? Was it systematically destroyed? Or does its wisdom live on in secret archives?
