Applying Infrastructure as Code and Serverless Technologies to AWS Deployments is a mini-course which is designed to stand on its own or be part of a Learning Path. The overall intent of the Learning Patch is to prepare the student for the AWS Certified DevOps Engineer Professional exam. The course has four distinct sections: 1) Elastic Beanstalk Deployments will give the student an in-depth look at the features and use cases for using Elastic Beanstalk in deployments. 2) Lambda, API Gateway, and State Machine deployments will look at these three services individually and also how they interact to facilitate deployments. 3) This section at CloudFormation begins by giving the student a thorough understanding of CloudFormation and concludes by detailing the many ways that CloudFormation interacts with other services to complete deployments. 4) A small, but detailed section on AWS OpsWorks which will prepare the student for using OpsWorks and any OpsWorks challenges which may arise on the certification exam.

I am a passionate technologist, evangelist and developer that thrives on learning emerging technologies, and with teaching others leverage digital transformation. I think in terms of mobile / cloud first, automate everything, design for failure and elasticity, build everything as self-contained microservices, and continuously monitor, deploy and update. I have an emphasis on Microsoft technologies, but I also have experience with multiple development and cloud platforms, and take pride my ability to create heterogeneous solutions. I’m a big fan of cross platform .NET, particularly with it on Linux on Azure.I hold multiple cloud and application platform, architecture, and development certifications, and also hold an MS from Drexel University in Mathematics and Computer Science, an Executive Masters in Technology Management from Penn/Wharton, and a certificate of Advanced Study from the University of Denver in Telecommunications Technology. I am former adjunct faculty at the University of Denver CIS and Telecommunications departments, and was a Microsoft Certified Trainer of MCSE courses for the University of Phoenix AATP program in Denver.

JavaScript, APIs, and prebuilt markup. It’s called the Jamstack and it’s all you need to build a serverless app. The templating and clean basic architecture make it easier to build applications without reinventing the wheel, while retaining the flexibility you need to handle data from a wide variety of sources. Combined with the static site generator Eleventy you have an even more efficient way to create and deliver serverless apps and websites. In this course, instructor Ray Villalobos takes you through a step-by-step project built with the Jamstack and Eleventy. Learn how to build pages from Eleventy templates and layouts, connect to site data through APIs, use features like shortcodes and filters to inject and update content, and group content in collections. Plus, learn how to use pagination to regroup pages and add navigation with plugins.
