My story? I’ve worked as a filmmaker for over 10 years now, climbing the ranks from volunteer to $10/hour intern editor to building a 6 figure production company with work featured on Billboard, Apple Music, and more. So believe me, I get the grind!

But for years, I approached work with this mindset:

If I take this job it could lead to that job which could lead to that job which could lead to that job. And if we get THAT job, then I’ll have enough money to stop.

In the creative industries, this “hustle” is not only encouraged, It’s glorified.

Am I saying you shouldn’t work hard? Absolutely NOT. BUT HUSTLE ISN’T SUSTAINABLE. It’s an endless battle with a hamster wheel that either ends in burning out or choosing to get off.

In 2018, it all came to a grinding halt for me and this reality hit me like a ton of bricks. 80 hours/week of sleepless nights caught up to me and I experienced a true burn out like I didn’t know was possible. I literally had nothing left. Physically, I couldn’t pull myself out of bed before noon. Mentally, I felt like I was in a creative coma. Financially, I was freaking out.

I knew something had to change. And in the middle of this crisis, my marketing degree kicked in with this thought.
