The Cisco® Fundamentals of Fiber Optics Technology (FFOT) E-Course from Cisco Learning Services provides an introduction to the fundamentals of fiber optics technology, and also introduces students to the Cisco Optical Networking System (ONS) 15454 Multiservice Transport Platform (MSTP) and Cisco Network Convergence System (NCS) 2000 Series. Through a combination of lectures and lab demonstrations, the course explores fiber-cleaning techniques, optical networking system safety, Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) fundamentals, and fiber testing and equipment.
Later portions of the course cover the Cisco ONS 15454 MSTP and NCS 2000 DWDM platforms. Students will learn about different shelf types, control and service cards, amplifiers, Reconfigurable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexers (ROADMs), and other hardware components, and will also learn how to navigate and use the Cisco Transport Controller (CTC) GUI for provisioning and administrative tasks.
