BBC Timewatch – The Gunpowder Plot 1605 (2005)
English | Documentary | Size: 1.23 GB
Terrorist attack in London: 400 years ago, on November 5, 1605, a group of fanatical Catholics planned to blow up Parliament, the King and the entire court with a huge load of gunpowder. The Gunpowder Plot re-examines the attempt – one of the most famous yet least understood events in British history. It shows how the plot was almost England’s 9/11, and asks why a group of young Englishmen became so radicalised and so hell-bent on terrorism.
Who was behind it, what were the motives of those involved in the plot? What was the historical context of this radical act? In this BBC documentary, author Alice Hogge reconstructs the background and the historical, political and logistical details of the so-called Gunpowder Plot with the help of experts.
Computer graphics recreate what the Houses of Parliament looked like in 1605, and show just how close the plotters came to success.
