5. Battle of Al Khafji
Al Khafji is a Saudi Arabian border town and in January 1991, an Iraqi invasion was expected and as a result 55,000 troops were amassed in Saudi Arabia ready to face Saddam Hussein. The plan was to drive Saddam from Kuwait by force but the Iraqis had other ideas and they launched a surprise invasion on Al Khafji. Despite air strike attacks, the battle came to the soldiers on the ground and they give their account of how it took three days of fighting before they were able to retake the city.
