2. The Raid at Cabanatuan
In 1938 when Hitler marched into Austria, the US government dedicated unprecedented amounts of resources into a military build up. This strategy was hastened by the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor and the American soldiers who had been deployed to the Philippines became the first US fighting forces in World War II. They were ill prepared and many surrendered and were taken to Japanese POW camps where they were tortured, deprived of food and often summarily executed. Several survivors retell the compelling account of that brutal and cruel regime.
